Kevin created this stunning routine over 15 years ago, it has been a staple within his working repertoire ever since.

The performer displays three envelopes each baring an image one with a Rock, one with a stack of Paper and the third displays an image of a pair of Scissors.
Next the performer proposes a little game, of which two spectators are invited to join them onstage, one male and one female. The spectators stand either side of the performer one to the left and one to the right.
Next the performer explains that in a moment they are going to be invited to play a little game one of which they are certainly going to be most familiar with, the famous game of Rock, Paper & Scissors also known as “Roshambo,” which is a simple but compelling game that has been enjoyed by people around the world for generations.
The performer explains ‘The origins of Rock Paper Scissors can actually be traced back to ancient China’. Within a book called “Wuzazu” (The Book of Songs) compiled during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) includes a poem that refers to the game named ‘Shoushiling’.
The poem tells the story of a lady who is cheated out of their money by a scam artist who claims to be a ‘Shoushiling’ champion. The lady challenges the scam artist to a game of ‘Shoushiling’ to win back her money, and with the help of a young boy who advises her on the proper strategy, she is able to triumph.
With this stated the performer offers to recreate this event. In stating this the performer offers the lady on their right to select one of the envelopes first. For example, we will assume she chooses the Rock, and this envelope is handed to the lady to hold.
Next the performer now holding only two envelopes, offers the gentleman to his left again a totally free choice of either of the two remaining envelopes. For example, he chooses Scissors, and this envelope is handed to him to hold.
At this point all three people onstage are now holding an envelope, the performer points out that as there are three players there can never be any losers, however as the performer is playing the part of the Shoushiling champion and scam artist he always knew exactly what choices the players would make and can prove it.
In stating this the performer turns to the lady on his right and asks her to open the envelope and remove the single card that is inside, she does exactly this and written in bold text on a card are the words I WILL CHOOSE THE ROCK… which corresponds to the same envelope, which in turn gets a laugh from the audience.
Next the gentleman to the performers left is offered to also remove the card from his envelope which reads I WILL CHOOSE SCISSORS… again a few laughs and groans from the audience.
However everyone is now expecting the performer to remove the card from their envelope expecting a similar style message however the performer reminds the two players that throughout the game they each had fully free choices and at any time they could have changed their minds if they so wished however this is the envelope which their choices had been left with the performer, the performer removes the card from their envelope which perfectly predicts the overall outcome of all three envelopes and who would be holding them.
